Carbonization- obvara
This presentation introduces an experimental research project focused on expanding the Obvara carbonization technique through the use of unusual materials.
This research offers a renewed vision of Obvara-type carbonization, understood as a flexible practice that can engage with local resources and enrich contemporary ceramics from a cultural and experimental perspective.
This piece was created using a guajillo chili sauce as the immersion liquid. The sauce contains no flour, yeast, or sugar—only dried guajillo chilies, garlic, onion, water, and salt. This experiment demonstrates how even non-fermented, savory liquids can expand the expressive potential of Obvara carbonization

This piece was created using Yogurt as the immersion liquid. Made from plain whole milk it contains natural lactic acid bacteria and yeasts.
This experiment showcases how fermented dairy products can produce distinctive surface effects in Obvara carbonization, expanding its aesthetic and cultural possibilities
